We use a traditional star rating system for the rooms we have played. It is important to say that the ratings are purely on our opinion. When we decide what rating to give a room, this is a collective decision from us all as a group, some of the group may love the room and others may not get on with it at all, so we do it based on an average across all 4 of us. Just because we did or didn't like a room, it does not mean that you will like or dislike it but please feel free to use it as a benchmark as to whether to give a room or go or not.
We rate the rooms based on first impressions, running of the game, room design, puzzles and hint/clue system. Over the years some of our tastes have changed but we have kept the ratings the same as they were when we wrote them. It is important to note that games/sets do evolve over time by owners and some of the puzzles/themes might have adapted since we visited.
We really didn't like this room and you should avoid at all costs.
We didn't like this room and should only try if you are completely stuck.
A room that we didn't enjoy but we could see what they were trying to do, but it just didn't work.
A room that we particularly didn't enjoy but there were some elements that could have been improved to make the room work.
A room that was enjoyed by some of the group but still had a lot to do to win us all over.
A room that pretty much all of the group thought was ok but missed that little something. Worth visiting if you are in the area.
A room that all of the group thought was really enjoyable and came away happy to recommend to others to make the effort to visit.
This rating is reserved for rooms that the majoirty of the group rated as being exceptional but not all of the group would rate as highly.
5 star rating is not given lightly, a room that blew us all away and is a must try.
